The Gurdjeiff enneagram which Ken describes here is sometimes known as the process enneagram, getting things done and exercising the will, In contrast the Oscar Ichazo enneagram which is more oriented towards inner work and personal growth. It is also Fourth Way because developing awareness of appropriate use of affective, effective, and cognitive (emotions, will, and mental) awareness is a fourth way in which imbalances of over use or improper use of each of the three centers is transcended as the inner work is advanced. Personality typing is merely the first step in this process.

What I find missing in Kens description is what each of the nine basic energetic types feels like at a visceral level. This is what I’ve learned from my work based on the Palmer-Daniels narrative tradition enneagram school that I have found the most helpful, since awareness of energetics in any given situation is what makes it possible to transcend them. Gurdjieff stated this so simply and beautifully when he said: “In order to escape from prison, one must first understand that one is in prison.” and as Stefan Molyneux says in “The Story of Your Enskavement”, “we can only be kept in the cages we refuse to see.” This “seeing” experience must involve all three aspects of our souls nature, mind, will, and emotions.
